Our Story

Freddy and Nikita with Jonty, Katie, Frankie and Poppy - the 6th generation.

(oldest to youngest)

Handcrafted

We have been farming for five generations, it is in our blood. So much of what we do is by hand and although technology will play a part in our future, our story is handwritten. A 16 year old boy by the name of Samuel Gane arrived in Lyttleton Harbour near Christchurch, he would eventually work his way north to Blenheim. In 1867 he would begin a journey we are still living when he settled down on Park Farm, our vineyard in the northern reaches of the Wairau Plains - what would become the wine capital of New Zealand.

The Vineyard

First planted in 1987, the original 8 acres of grapes has grown to cover all 200 acres of our family property. We have grown for Babich Family Wines and Nautilus Estate since the beginning. Both of these companies have strong family values that have stood the test of time.

Kaituna Ridges

In the winter of 2021 we were fortunate enough to get an opportunity to add Kaituna Ridges to our story. Fred and Nikita, along with their children Jonty, Katie, Frankie and Poppy, are running this venture as well as staying involved in the viticultural operation.

“Kaituna Ridges is a hub of community activity in the Havelock area, something we are so keen to keep going. We welcome trampers, tourists, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone wanting to share our slice of paradise”. - Fred.
